Study of L i ~y ( B 0 ~) ~ :Nd3+ Crystal -A New Laser Crystal Preliminary results of the study of a new laser crystal, neodymiumdoped yttrium lithium borate, Li6Y(B03)3:Nd3+, are reported. To prepare the samples, a mixture of LiC03, Nd203, Y203, and H3B03 was fully ground, pressed into tablets and heated in a Pt crucible at 800 OC for a long period o f time t o ensure complete reaction. This procedure was repeated until no alteration would occur in the powder X-ray diffraction pattern. Single crystals o f Li6YB03)3 were grown from a molten solution by using LiF as a flux.
