Photoluminescence spectra of CdTe:Cl crystals were measured at 5 K before and after irradiation by the second harmonic of a YAG:Nd laser. It was found that the Huang-Rhys factor for donor-acceptor pair (DAP) recombination increases after irradiation with laser power above the CdTe melting point whic

✦ Synopsis
The eects of the laser beam instability on the temperature of the material are studied in this paper. The ¯uctuation of the temperature not only relates to the laser beam instability, but also correlates with the thermal conductivity, the thermal diusivity, the emissivity, the laser±solid interaction time, and the laser spot diameter. The temperature ¯uctuation of the aluminum, the polymethylmethacrylate, the epoxylite, and the low carbon steel is measured by the infrared thermal imagers (HWRXÁÁ) to determine validity of the theory prediction. It is found that the theoretical prediction is in good agreement with the experimental results. Besides, the maximum amplitude of the temperature ¯uctuation is calculated and how to control the temperature ¯uctuation is discussed. The results show that the temperature ¯uctuation in the laser±solid interaction is of importance in practice.
