Abstract

The freeโ€radical copolymerization of Nโ€isopropylacrylamide and 2โ€acrylamidoโ€2โ€methylโ€1โ€propanesulphonic acid at varying comonomer mole ratios was studied at 70ยฐC. The extent of conversion was determined as a function of time and comonomer mixture composition, and copolymer compositions were determined using elemental analysis and ^13^C NMR spectroscopy. Monomer reactivity ratios were evaluated for low conversions using Kelenโ€Tรผdos and Finemanโ€Ross methods. The copolymers were characterized using ^13^C and ^1^H NMR spectra, FTIR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. ยฉ 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 88: 2563โ€“2569, 2003

The free-radical initiated synthesis of acrylamide-co-2-acrylamido-2methyl-1-propane sulphonic acid (AAm-co-AMPS) was studied at 60 and 25ยฐC. The monomer reactivity ratios were evaluated using Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tu ยจdos methods, based on elemental analysis of the copolymers and 13 C-NMR experime
