✦ Synopsis
The conformation of the molecule of diethyl 3,12-diaza-4,1l-dioxotetradecanedioate (EtGS-GEt) has been investigated in the crystalline stateoby X-ray analysi!. EtGSGEt crystidlizes in the monoclinic system, space group P112,/n with a = 4.8174(7) A, b = 4.9008(5) A, c = 43.616(5) A and y = 112.854(10)". 965 independent reflections were used in the refinement to the final agreement factor of R = 8.36%. The glycine residues of EtGSGEt are related by an inversion center and adopt a conformation, which slightly deviates from that characteristic of the polyglycine I1 structure. An all-trans conformation was deduced for the suberamide unit. The packing characteristics of this diamide are similar to that found in the (L form of nylons.
