✦ Synopsis

Adso~tion of Cd(K) from aqueous solutions on activated carbons with modified surfaces is studied, The experimental adsorption data are discussed in comparison to the isotope exchange kinetic data and surface charge density data. The results suggest the dependence of the mechanism of Cd(K) adsorption upon the pH value of the solution. Key WordsActivated carbons, adsorption, isotope exchange.

Three samples of activated carbons of various origins were used in this study. The initial samples were oxidized with nitric acid to introduce oxygen-containing groups. The surface of sorbents was characterized using sorption of nitrogen, Boehm and potentiometric titrations, DRIFTS, and thermal anal
