✦ Synopsis
Aqueous sample solutions were nebulized by an ultrasonic nebulizer and the solvent was removed by a desolvation apparatus before introduction of the aerosol into the microwaveinduced plasma (MIP). The desolvation system consists of a heating tube and a condenser associated with a concentrated (\mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{SO}{4}) desiccator. The water vapor was removed almost completely with the desolvation system. The detectability of microwave-induced plasma atomic emission spectrometry was therefore improved. The detection limits for (\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{Cl}, \mathrm{Br}), and I were (0.0045,0.12,0.23), and (0.06 \mu \mathrm{g} / \mathrm{ml}), respectively. Based on a study of the emission spectra of (\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{Cl}, \mathrm{Br}), and (\mathrm{I}) in the range of 200 to (600 \mathrm{~nm}) in He MIP, the optimum analytical lines for determination of corresponding elements were chosen.
