In our experimental work we have studied, by infrared spectroscopy, the influence of iodine used for detection of substances separated on thin layers. We examined the stability of the complexes formed by addition of iodine on the tertiary-bound nitrogen in the molecule of the substances detected in this way. We also examined complexes formed by this detection procedure in the case of strychnos and opium alkaloids, pyrazolone and phenothiazine derivatives, sulphonamides and other compounds. The results of this study were in agreement with the results obtained after quantitative estimation of substances separated on thin layers.
