✦ Synopsis

A detailed study of the vibrated dropping mercury electrode has been made_ Electrocapillaryphoresis is shown to be primarily responsible for the increased diffusion current due to the application of a transverse alternating field_ A few typical results of the investigation of the effects of the magnitude and frequency of a transverse alternating field on the polarographic limiting current in a solution of 0•001 M Cd2+ and 0-001 M HgH respectively in 0-1 M KCl and on the polarographic maximum in a solution of 0-001 M HgH in 0-1 M KCI are presented.
