โœฆ Synopsis

This report gives results of studies to find the numerical solution of a model representing fixed bed burning. Two well known approximating methods were used. They were (1) a first-order method and (2) the use of a second-order polynomial approximation.

Truncation error studies were made to compare these two methods. The first-order method was shown to be expensive and impractical. The second-order scheme proved to be efficient and useful. A typical solution is reported.

Also included is an account of the laboratory work required to develop an empirical kinetic burning rate and a mathematical derivation of the partial differential equations which were the model.

In this paper a model for the non-isothermal multicomponent adsorption is presented. The model takes into consideration two diffusion fluxes-the macropore diffusion and the diffusion in the adsorbed phase. It is assumed that both fluxes progress in parallel in the direction of the particle centre an
