✦ Synopsis
The cathodic reaction of the FeS, (pyrite) electrode in molten AICl,PNaCI electrolyte was studied by the nc impedance method. The faradaic components of the impedance for the FeS, electrode were considered to be the charge transfer, the surface reaction, and the diffusion processes. The faradaic impedance values in the basic melt (50 mol "/, AICl,-50 mol "/, NaCI) were much smaller than those in the acidic melt (52 mol'j/ AICl48 moly/, NaCl). Behaviour of the Warburg slope indicated that the reacting species at near eauilibrium uotentials in the acidic and the basic melts are Ai,Cl;and
AICl, reswctivelv. This suggested that thk electrodd reaction in the acidic melt during extended &ho&c polar&ion was thk same aHThat in the basic melt. Variation in the activation energy for charge transfer was closely related to the dependence of the discharge characteristics on temperature.
