Abstract

A study has been made of the carbon nutrition of Coriolopsis occidentalis using carbohydrates, amino acids, and their related compounds in liquid growth medium. Of the simple carbohydrates tested, the oligosaccharides supported growth best followed by xylose. Cellulose supported fair growth as a sole carbon source but its substituted compounds were ineffective. Growth was also fair on amino acids as sole carbon sources but was largely improved in the presence of equimolar amounts of glucose.
