✦ Synopsis
The mfluence of freshly formed hydrous lron(II1) oxides m the 0x1~ layers m sediments on the exchange processes of cadmmm between the mtenhtlal and the overlymg water was mvestlgated By the formatlon of Iron oxides as coatmgs on clay mmerals it 1s possible to measure the dissolved part of cadmmm wrth dtierentml-pulse anodlc stnppmg voltammetry Hnthout disturbances of colloidal particles The results were compared wth theoretical calculations usmg a surface complexmg mode1 The measurements showed that 0 1 mm01 of FeOOH coated on the clay mmeral kaobmte (1 g) can adsorb up to 95% of the added cadmmm (1 pm01 1-l) The measured adsorptlon agreed well with the estunatlons of the theoretical mode1 The mvestlgatlon of the influence of compehtlve Ions (CaZ+ and PO:-) showed that both Ions reduced the proportlon of adsorbed cadmmm whereas the model postulates higher adsorptlon wth phosphate The measurements showed that freshly formed hydrous lron(III) oxides may act as a natural bamer to the dffislve flux of tome trace elements mto the overlymg water

The interfacial behavior of two hydrous oxides of iron, namely an amorphous variety (amor. \(\mathrm{FeOOH}\) ) and a synthetic akaganeite ( \(\beta\) - FcOOH), in different electrolyte media has been studied by potentiometric titration (both rapid and batch procedures) and particle electrophoresis
The reaction kinetics and mechanism of the oxidations of leucomethylene blue (MBH) and leucothionine (TH) by iron (III) sulfate in aqueous solution were studied spectrophotometrically by the stopped-flow technique. MBH and TH, which were freshly prepared by photoreduction of methylene blue and thion
