Studies on ion transport VI. The accumulation of Mg 2รท by heart mitochondria in the absence of inorganic phosphate

* The behavior of a fourth type of intramitochondrial Mg 2+, that which appears to be deposited in an insoluble form when Pt is also accumulated, has been documented previouslyl, z and need not be discussed here.

Cyclic voltammetry was employed to study the influence of stcrols on the lipophilic ion transport through the BLM. The mole fraction of (he sterols (cholesterol, oxidized cholesterol), as referred to total lipid, was varied in a range of 0-0.8. Data demonstrate that a thin-layer model is suitable to

The transport of cations (Na+ K+ and Ca\*+) through a conducting polymer membrane is demonstrated. Transport was achieved by the application of a potential gradient across the membrane. The results have far reaching significance in the development of tailored membranes for separation technology.
