✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The relative amounts of the Ξ± and the Ξ³ crystalline forms of nylon 6 obtained from the melt under different crystallization conditions have been studied by an x‐ray diffraction procedure by comparison with a calibration curve obtained from the diffraction of standard samples. The weight fraction of the Ξ± form decreases with increasing crystallization temperature and that of the Ξ³ form increases. Growth of the Ξ± form is predominant in crystallization at 100Β°C and of the Ξ± form at 200Β°C. The amount of the Ξ± form tends to increase on annealing at 200Β°C for specimens crystallized at any temperature.
