✦ Synopsis
Comparisons between series of cancer cases are dificuit in the absence ofpopulation data; to facilitate such comparisons the use of an age-standardized cancer ratio ( A S C A R ) is proposed. When gross differences appear between crude ratios, the use of the agecorrected ratio enables a distinction to be made between a difference due to age effect and one that is potentially significant.
