✦ Synopsis

Some further results on the stabilized low temperature ignition of acetaldehyde have been oOtained. The addition of formaldehyde increases the induction period to the cool flame but reduces the time betweex: the cool and second stage flames. Stabilization of ignition of propene--oxy ~,en mixtures was achieved by the addition of small amounts of acetaldehyde. Composition profiles through cool ard second stage flames in this system show that the products included propene oxide, acrolein, methanol, ethano, formaldehyde and hydrocarbons such as methane, ethylene and butene. Oxidation of the propene also gave rise to further acetaldehyde, which was an important intermediate being a source of methyl radicals.
