✦ Synopsis
This paper represents studies of ion-exchange fiber "IONEX" for precoating materials at nuclear power plants. Cation-exchange fiber "JONEX" (ca. 40 pm diameter and ca . 0.3 mm length) with sulfonic acid group for cation exchange, which is suitable for precoating materials, has been prepared. The microcolumn tests, carried out by forming precoat layers using mixtures of powdered resins and "IONEX", indicate that filter performance can be improved considerably . These results are attributed to bridge effects and large specific surface areas of "IONEX" . Based on the results of these laboratory tests, "JONEX" has already been used at several power plants .
