✦ Synopsis

Optical rotation, viscosity, and density studies are reported on solutions of a-gelatin in solvent mixtures of water and various monohydric alcohols. Reversion to the collagen fold by the protein is shown to be first order in all cases, but changes in magnitude as a function of concentration of the particular alcohol are observed. The structuring effects of the alcohol on water are seen to be reflected in the extent of helix regeneration by the protein. Shorter chain alcohols appear to influence the initial rate of reversion by direct interaction with the protein.

Four oligomers of a-L-glutamic acid with ends blocked by nonionizable protecting groups were studied in 0.1M NaC104 solution using potentiometric measurements. The titrations were analyzed using a pit-mapping method. The results are compared with those obtained with the corresponding polymer. The su

The freeze-dried samples prepared from dilute PVA aqueous solutions and PVAÈiodine complex aqueous solutions have been examined using a scanning electron microscope. The samples prepared from syndiotacticity-rich PVA (S-PVA) solutions were found to have a network structure due to the formation of in
