✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Fourteen mammalian cell strains were studied in the β€˜stirrer culture’. Fair to excellent growth was obtained with twelve of these strains while two strains failed to show evidence of proliferation. Growth curves, maximal population densities, and recovery following subculture of various cell strains, cultivated in this system, were described. Factors effecting the growth of cells under these conditions were outlined. Growth of cells in methods other than the β€˜stirrer culture’ were reported. The practical importance of fluid suspension culture of mammalian cells, the potentialities and the problems involved in scaling such cultures to industrial size were discussed.

Glutamine is a major source of energy, carbon, and nitrogen for mammalian cells. The amount of glutamine present in commercial mammalian cell media is, however, not necessarily balanced with cell requirements. Therefore, the effects of glutamine limitation on the physiology of two mammalian cell lin

## Abstract We have tested the ability of [5′‐^32^P]‐deoxyribonucleoside monophosphates (dNMPs) to penetrate living mouse fibroblast L cells and human HeLa cells. Under the conditions of our experiments, small numbers of apparently intact dNMP molecules appeared to penetrate into the interior of L
