Eingegangen am 11. Dezember 1991 Der von Bufler und Leitch4) vorgeschlagene Reaktionsmechanismus fur die bei der Hydantoinsynthese von Bilrz3) ablaufende Skelett-Umlagerung konnte gesichert werden. Die bereits von Bilrz postulierte Zwischenstufe 3a wurde aus dem Reaktionsansatz isoliert und die Zwischenstufen 3b-3g und 4b-4g auf unabh&gigem Wege synthetisiert und in den Reaktionsansatzen der jeweiligen Benzile lb-ld mit Phenylharnstoff (2b) mittels HPLC nachgewiesen. Hierbei ergab sich keine klare Bevorzugung in der Richtung des Ringschlusses. Concerning the Reaction Mechanism of the Hydantoin Synthesis According to Bile, I: Proof of the Intermediates
The reaction mechanism of the rearrangement occuring during the hydantoin synthesis according to Bilfz3), proposed by Bufler and birch'), has been ascertained. The intermediate 3a, already proposed by Bilri-, could be isolated out of the reaction mixture. The intermediates 3b-3g and 4b-4g were synthesized independently and detected in the reaction mixtures of the respective benzils lb-ld with phenylurea (2b) by HPLC. There was no clear preference of the direction of the ring closure.
