✦ Synopsis
To understand the three critical questions posed in this chapter, one must first briefly review the history of higher education' s concern with student conduct. Even though student conduct issues predate most of the academic disciplines studied today, little research has been undertaken to define why institutions are concerned with student behavior, why students violate the behavioral standards established by institutions, and what is the most appropriate response to these violations.
