โœฆ Synopsis

A polysaccharide containing L-rhamnose, 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose, and 2acetamido-2-deoxy-D-mannose was obtained from an aqueous phenol extract of isolated cell walls from the reference strain for Acinetobacter baumannii serogroup 010. By means of NMR studies and chemical degradations, the repeating unit of the polymer (the putative 010 antigen) was identified as a branched pentasaccharide of the structure shown.

Acinetobacter species are free-living, non-fermentative, Gram-negative bacteria, some of which have become important as opportunistic pathogens, often characterised by multiple drug resistance [1]. Of the various genospecies currently recognised, Acinetobacter baumannii is the one most commonly asso

A neutral glucorhamnan has been isolated from the lipopolysaccharide of the 010 reference strain (C.D.C. 1287-54) of Serrutia marcescens. By means of n.m.r. spectroscopy, methylation analysis, and degradative studies, the polymer (the putative O-specific antigen) was found to have the branched, pent

A polysaccharide containing L-rhamnose and L-xylose was isolated from the lipopolysaccharide extracted from the cell walls of the reference strain for Stenotrophomonas (Xanthomonas) maltophilia serogroup O10. By means of NMR studies and methylation analysis, the repeating unit of the polymer was ide
