The synthesis and crystal structure of a new type of oxygendeficient compound with the formula LaNi 19x M x O 2.5; (M:Mn, Fe, Co) are reported. The new phases crystallize in a tetragonal cell with dimensions a T :2(2 a C and c T :a C , where a C means the cell parameter of an ideal cubic perovskite.
