✦ Synopsis
Studies on basement membrane collagens indicate that, like the interstitial collagens, the basement membrane collagen molecule has a rodlike triple-helical portion. Unlike the interstitial collagens, the tissue form of basement membrane collagen either retains its procollagenous extension peptides or is covalently bound to additional glycoprotein moieties or although there is substantial disagreement on this point and the -3000 rod may be constructed from very much shorter helical section^.^.^
