✦ Synopsis

The structure of a new antibiotic, roseophilin, was elucidated to be as shown iu Fig. 1 by NMR spectral analysis including a variety of two-dimensional techniques. Roseophilin was found to possess a novel skeleton containing pyrrole and furan moieties.

The structure of monazomycin was determined by degradative study in combination with biosynthetic means using 13C-NMR. Monazomycin is an antibiotic isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces mashiuensis and is active against Gram-positive bacteria.
