✦ Synopsis
Ion pairing effects have been studied for M(CF,SO,), PEO, films with M = Zn and Pb, and n = 9, 16 and 24. Using FT-ir spectroscopy the SO, and C-O-C stretching modes for CF,SO,-and PEO can be studied. Shifts in the C-O-C
stretching modes on metal ion coordination to PEO have been observed. Ion pairs and higher complexes were detected, indicated by splitting of the degenerate antisymmetric SO, stretching mode on coordination of CF,SO; to metal ions. The symmetric SO, stretching mode remained unshifted for M = Zn*+, and shifted to lower wave numbers for M = Pb*+. X-Ray diffraction shows that PEO is the only crystalline phase present; to an increasing extent as the salt concentration decreases.
