Abstract

The isolation of a new lactonic component from jasmine waxes and jasmine oil is described. This odoriferous compound is shown to be (‐)‐cis‐5‐pent‐2′‐enyl‐pentanolide‐(5,1).

## Abstract The «keto‐lactone» obtained twenty years ago by Naves and Grampoloff from Italian jasmin absolute is quite different from the methyl jasmonate described by Demole, Lederer and Mercier, and not an impure preparation of this ester, as advocated by these authors.
