✦ Synopsis
Glasses in the system xPbO Á (100Àx)P 2 O 5 (x=25-60 mol%) have been investigated using IR spectroscopy and by means of density and electrical-resistivity measurements. The infrared spectra revealed that for PbOo50 mol% PbO enters the structure as a network modifier forming non-bridging oxygen ions. For PbO>50 mol% PbO also plays the role of a network former. The greater rate of density increase for PbO>50 mol% is due to the formation of PbO 4 units. The conductivity of these glasses depends mainly on the mobility of Pb 2+ ions. The variation of the electrical conductivity parameters upon changing the composition have been correlated with the structural changes in the glass matrix.

glasses were prepared from very pure oxides. The glass-transition temperature increased from 281 to 411 °C with an increase in Nb 2 O 5 content and, simultaneously, the coefficient of thermal expansion decreased from 21 to 11 ppm/°C. Raman scattering measurements indicated that TeO 4 trigonal bipyra
Some PbO-Al2O3-P2O5 glasses have been investigated using 31P and 27Al magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance. The observed spectra could be divided into two groups. In the first, Al(IV), Al(V) and Al(VI) are observed, the 31P linewidths are large and the chemical shift range (-30 to -36 ppm
The results of structural studies of the glasses from Li 2 O-Bi 2 O 3 -PbO system were presented. Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were applied to determine main structural unites and chemical composition of near-surface region. Glasses from the studied system are bu
