β¦ Synopsis
On clean AI(111) bonding of molecular NH 3 occurs via the N atom with a wide distribution of tilt angles of the molecular axis with respect to the surface normal and with random azimuthal orientation. Fractional monolayers of chemisorbed oxygen induce a high degree of local azimuthal orientation of the H atoms in adsorbed NH3, in the absence of long-range order.
