✦ Synopsis
Three types of sol-gel processes for the production of silicate glasses have been studied by analysing the luminescence decay profiles of ruthenium tris-(2,2'-bipyridine) in the presence of methylviologen. Two of the types were based on a low-and a high-pH catalyst while the third contained formamide as drying-control agent. Cadmium sulfide and lead sulfide particles have been produced in these glasses and their nature depends on the structure of the glasses.
