The gene products of the human and murine I region display a high degree of homology in their primary amino acid sequence (Silver et al. 1979, Bono andStrominger 1982). This structural similarity is paralleled by cross-hybridization of HLA-D cDNA probes with murine cosmids containing/-region genes (Steinmetz et al. 1982) and by serologic cross-reactivity of mouse class II-specific alloantisera and monoclonal antibodies with human B lymphoid cells (
