โฆ Synopsis
B~.sed on the engineering fracture parameter CTOA, a new approach to the structural integrity assessment for non-J-controlled crack growth is proposed in the present paper. When the crack propagation is in the situation of J-controlled crack growth, the single curve assessment method for ductile fracture is investigated to predict the safety of engineering structures by means of the Crack Tip Opening Displacemen~L (CTOD). In terms of J~-integral and CTOA, structural integrity assessment is also studied for non-J-controlled crack growth. In this new approach, the J-integral and CTOA are combined to establish the fracture criterion. Compact tension (CT) specimens, which are made of ductile steel A533B, are studied by the test and EPRI elastic-plastic fracture analysis. According to the combining criterion of J-integral and CTOA, the assessment of CT specimens is done and the result shows that this approach for ductile fracture gives reasonable prediction.
