✦ Synopsis

The compound 2,4_dichlor~3'-meiyl-rrorls-stilhene is dimorphic. The two forms arc assigned "pair" and "stack" crystal strtictures on the basis of their cell dimensions and of the structures of the photodimers derivti from them. Escimer emission is observed from both forms, with that from the stack structure being cf higher enc~y. This is in keeping with an earlier theoretical analysis and argues for the validity and generality of this analysis.
