โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The Znโ€“ZnO nanostructure thin films are prepared by an inexpensive vacuum arcโ€discharge method combined with vacuum annealing. The structural analysis of the grazingโ€incidence Xโ€ray diffraction pattern using the Rietveld method showed the formation of Znโ€“ZnO in a single phase. The coexistence of Zn and ZnO in the thinโ€film sample was also confirmed using transmission electron microscopy technique. Studies of optical properties by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy exhibit a strong violet emission accompanied by weak blue and green emission. The origin of defect emission of Znโ€“ZnO nanostructure was analyzed. Thus, the existence of metallic Zn nanocrystals embedded in ZnO islands provides a considerable change in the PL mechanism.
