✦ Synopsis
Several thermal degradative methods were employed for elucidation of structures of two furfuraldehyde insoluble and infusible resins. A combination of pyrolysis at reduced pressure, (direct-inlet pyrolysis)-(mass spectrometry) and flash-pyrolysis in GC/MS and GC/FT-i.r. systems led to the identification of 39 pyrolysis products. From analysis of the information, three structural precursors of pyrolysate composition were established. The major structural features of the resins are proposed.
