✦ Synopsis
The one-dimensional t-J model in a staggered magnetic field h has been discussed by means of the string or spin bag approach. The Hilbert space has been built of states representing holes localized by the potential corresponding to hole propagation induced defects in the original antiferromagnetic spin structure. These functions called spin bag states are eigenstates of a Hamiltonian obtained by neglecting the processes which lead to hole delocalization. Contrary to previous attempts excited spin bag states have also been taken into account. Cases involving one, two and three holes have been discussed. Dispersion of the ground states and some excited states have been calculated. Quantities like the kinetic energy or hole-hole density correlation functions have been discussed and good agreement with results of numerical diagonalizations has been found. Competition between phase separation and binding is discussed.
