I consider the status of inflation in the context of string theories. Existing models of supersymmetric inflation cannot be carried over to string theory. Because of its effect on the gravitational equations of motion, the dilaton field necessarily plays an essential role. The possibilities for De Sitter space solutions with a constant dilaton are examined.
