A joint formed by quarter planes in which each behaves as a power law hardening material is considered in this paper. J2-deformation plasticity theory is assumed. The first term in an asymptotic expansion of the stress function, separable into r and 0, is compared to the results obtained by the finite element method. Empirical relations, based on a least squares method, are given for the stress exponent Aj and the angular functions. The unknown stress intensity factor for the first term is determined with the finite element method, and the relation to the material data and the loading is discussed.
