β¦ Synopsis
In this paper an analytical solution is developed for two three-dimensional coplanar rectanguiar-shaped cracks embedded in an infinite elastic medium and subiected to normal loading. Employing two-dimensional integral transforms, the solution of the problem is reduced to triple integral equations. Assuming the plane strain solution across the lengths of the narrow cracks, an approximate solution of the triple integral equations for large values of the lengths of the cracks is obtained. Finally, expressions are obtained for the stress intensity factors along the sides of the cracks and these results are given in the form of graphs.

Stress intensity factors for a long cylindrical crack in a long cylinder have been calculated using the energy release rate approach. The investigated loading cases include centrifugal forces (Mode I), radial surface forces (Mode I), forces parallel to the axis (Mode II), and twisting moments (Mode
This note concerns the Mode I stress intensity factors at edge cracks in strips under pure bending. When these cracks penetrate three quarters or more of the width of the strip, expressions in standard handbooks can give rise to distinctly different results for K~. By applying an appropriately teste
