✦ Synopsis


Accurate finite element analyses of compact tension specimens have been performed giving stress intensity factors slightly above those of existing analytical solutions. Crack mouth openings are also grven. Simple formulae for both stress intensity and crack opening yielding errors within a couple of per cent of the numerical results are presented.
