โฆ Synopsis
PROBLEM
Loose associational processes long have been associated with cognitive deficit in schizophrenia. Bleuler ( 2 ) suggested that loose associations underlie all schizophrenic symptomatology. Normals have been differentiated most consistently from schizophrenics on the basis of loose associations. Comparisons of process and reactive subgroups of schizophrenics have found equivocal results.
DeWolfe'', 5, has suggested that reactives can be expected to perform as poorly as process under stressful conditions, but that under lower stress the reactives who are proposed to have reached a higher level of cognitive development should perform better than the process. This study directly investigated this theoretical position.
