Synopsis
The influence of stress on chemical potential and solubility for solutes with asymmetrical distortion fields are considered. Numerical solutions and series approximations are presented for several examples of different stress states. Both open and closed thermodynamic systems are treated. The calculations are compared with results for hydrogen in crystalline Pd and amorphous Pd alloys, the latter of which involves an asymmetrical distortion field.
