โฆ Synopsis
The elastic stresses in an infinite matrix and a long cylindrical inclusion of circular cross-section from a twisted multifilamentary composite superconductor under the action of Lorentz forces are investigated.
It is assumed that the materials are homogeneous and isotropic by their mechanical properties, and the transport current is monotonously increasing whereas the external uniform magnetic field is slowly changing with time. The possibility of crack initiation in an epoxy matrix and plastic deformation in an inclusion is discussed. Initial crack locations and their orientations are determined.
