โœฆ Synopsis

Abs&act-Stress aualysis for a strip of which widths are. d&rent at the right and left handsides is carried out for before and after occurrence of a crack at a comer of a step. The strip is analyzed as a thin plate bending problem subject to transverse bending and torsion, and as a plane eleastic problem subject to bending in the plane and uniaxial tension. The rational mapping function of a sum of fractional expressions and complex variable method are used. Stress distribution and stress intensity factors are obtained.

An elastic plate with a crack at a juncture of a strip and a half-plane is analysed as a thin plate bending problem and as a plane elastic problem. Four and three loading conditions are considered for each problem. Stress distributions near the crack and the juncture are investigated. The stress int

THE CENTRAL crack in a uniformly stressed strip has been a standard fracture toughness test configuration for many years and the corresponding stress analysis has been the subject of several numerical investigations, e.g. Ref. [I]. The results are often presented in the form,

Stress intensity factors for a crack passing through a step in a plate where the thickness discontinuously decreases were derived from crack propagation tests and two-dimensional finite element analysis. Finite element analysis was used to generalize the effect of geometric parameters (plate width,
