✦ Synopsis

Although biological methylation is a common reaction in biosynthetic pathways, C-methylated amino acids are quite rate-a -Methylserine 1 occurs in the antibiotic amicetin2;p-methylproline _?. and /3_methylphenylalanine 2 occur in bottyromycin3; and fl-methyltryptophan 3 occurs in telomycin4.

Indole isopropionic acid5 2 produced by a Claviceps, is probably a degradation product offi-methyltryptophan6.
