Over the past 15 years Streptococcus bovis, a Lancefield group D non-enterococcal organism, has become increasingly recognized as a common cause of endocarditis, accounting for 14 per cent of cases of microbial endocarditis'. Moreover, a strong association between S. bouis bacteraemia and underlying
