β¦ Synopsis
This paper examines the prospects for process change in the legal services industry, based on the concept of strategic process re-engineering; process change at an operational level in the strategic context of response to rapidly escalating competition. Four core processes for legal services firms are proposed: getting the knowledge, getting the work, doing the work and getting paid for the work. The current prospects for process change are considered, including reflections on radicalism and incrementalism, anticipation and trigger events, and proactive and reactive re-engineering in the current context of small-scale but unremitting change in legal service firms.
