✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Global acquisitions in the first quarter of 2008 were down 41 percent from the first quarter of 2007. But the value of strategic mergers and acquisitions (M&As)—as opposed to financial ones—dropped only 33 percent, while the number of deals rose 8 percent. Will strategic mergers withstand our economic downturn much better? The authors examine this question and discuss M&A trends and key success factors and give an update on initial public offering activity. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
