✦ Synopsis

Measurements of increases in flow stress of polycrystalline

superpure aluminum and aluminummagnesium alloys following aging at liquid-air temperatures after prior deformation at the same temperature indicate that some form of strain-aging occurs. The apparent activation energy for this process is 0.1 eV. It is probable that the strain-aging observed in superpure aluminum is caused by the migration of interstitials to dislooations.

In aluminum-magnesium alloys an additional contribution arises from local redistribution of solute atoms.
