Seals range complies with new API standard
US-based John Crane reports that a portfolio of its seal products has been qualification-tested to a new American Petroleum Institute (API) standard.
The company's line of cartridge seals, compliant to the API 682, 2nd Edition standard, includes a range of metal bellows, O-ring, gaslubricated and secondary containment seals.
John Crane, which is based in Morton Grove, Illinois, says that it was already preparing to comply with the new standard during late 2002, as the API was getting ready to launch the 2nd Edition of API 682 governing mechanical seals for centrifugal and rotary pumps.
"This line of seals, qualified to API 682, 2nd Edition, reflects a dedicated effort on our part to support the chief goals of the standard," said Jesse Fordyce, John Crane's market manager for oil and gas industries, "namely, improving equipment reliability and availability for end-users, while reducing emissions and driving down life cycle sealing costs."
The new standard defines three distinct categories of seals. Category 1 covers chemical and petrochemical duty -primarily ANSI and ISO pump applications. Category 2 is for traditional API 610 applications, while Category 3 deals with high-end seals that require full documentation.
